Tommy Emmanuel

Tommy first started playing the guitar at the tender age of four. The first tune he learnt to play was "Guitar Boogie" by Arthur Smith. He was inspired by American guitarist Chet Atkins and greatly admired Hank B. Marvin of The Shadows.

Tommy Emmanuel not only is a very accomplished guitarist, but also plays drums and sings. It is difficult to categorise Tommy in one particular style of music, Jazz, Classical, Rock, Country, his multi faceted repertoire has enabled him to move around the music scene with ease.

His discography to date is 12 albums, - 6 solo, 1 with brother Phil, 1 with Pee Wee Clark and 1 with the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra.

His album "The Day Finger Pickers Took Over The World" won an award in the 1998 Nashville Music Awards, and a track off the album "Smokey Mountain Lullaby", was nominated for a Grammy in the same year.

Tommy has released 2 instructional videos, the first was "Guitar Talk" in 1993.

At the 15th Annual Chet Atkins Appreciation Society Convention - July 1999, Chet Atkins performed with, then presented to, Tommy the prestigious C.G.P. (Certified Guitar Player) award. "In Recognition Of His Contributions To The Art of Fingerpicking".This award has only been awarded to - Jerry Reed, Arthur Knowles and Chet Atkins.

Tommy performs alone, with brother Phil, with his band, with a String Quartet, or the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra, whatever the combination he always gives 1001% effort, and it shows!

If you have never seen him live, you are missing a Living Legend in action. He so obviously enjoys playing and encourages other people to play. Not only is he an Ambassador for Australia, promoting Australia wherever he goes, our music and our culture, and he is a really nice guy.
In fact he is "Simply The Best!"
