Classical
FourPlay Australian-based FourPlay started life as a classical string quartet Australian Youth Orchestra members. Inspired by the Kronos, Balanescu and Brodsky Quartets’ blurring of the boundaries between classical and rock music, they began playing rock covers for friends. The group has just returned from a 31 date European tour through 22 different cities. Highlights include the Ghent Festival in Belgium, Royal National Theatre on the Thames in London, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, 35th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic and an extremelyrock'n'roll gig at Rotown in Rotterdam. FourPlay’s repertoire includes covers of mostly alternative bands: Beastie Boys, Jeff Buckley, Pop Will Eat Itself, Depeche Mode, This Mortal Coil, Velvet Underground and Metallica together with some contemporary classical music, and their own originals, inspired by wide array of diverse music such as: dub, klezmer, ambient and avant-garde. FourPlay’s new album, "The Joy Of…" is out now to rave reviews across the nation. Recorded and distributed independently, "FourPlay have been the most successful alternative charting band to perform in the entire history of our charts"” Stuart Clark, Australian Music Retail Report "“They spit in the eye of classical romanticism, chain sawing into these songs and then throwing them together in new shapes". Rolling Stone "They are like cinema for the ears".S.B.S. Television Click to Go Back |
