Highly Strung
Highly Strung comprises Bernadette McCoy and Mary O’Mahony on violins, and Justin McCoy on guitar and vocals. These three Sydney musicians were founding members of the popular Eighties orchestral rock group Hat Trick.The repertoire is extensive, and covers the styles of jazz, light classical, themes from popular shows, and instrumental arrangements of classic pop tunes, eg. Beatle songs.
The duo also has a range of international and folk music, which includes Irish and Scottish jigs and reels, Yiddish tunes, and Gypsy fiddle music, as well as popular tunes from many European countries. The main criteria are that the music is well known, and is performed with enthusiasm and enjoyment on their part, which is invariably conveyed to the guests.
Highly Strung generally perform acoustically, which gives them the freedom to position themselves anywhere in the venue, providing ambience, or to mingle with the guests, and play their requests if invited. However, if required in larger venues, or where dancing is preferred, sound reinforcement can be provided.
Highly Strung is available as a duo, (one violin and guitar) or trio, (two violins and guitar) or we use flute/saxophone instead of the 2 violins.
