Mahalia Barnes

Mahalia Barnes 2013
Mahalia and Jimmy Barnes

Born into Australian rock royalty, influenced by her father Jimmy Barnes, Mahalia naturally began singing at a very young age, and professionally since she was 16.

Mahalia has been part of several national tours supporting the likes of Lionel Ritchie, James Morrison and the Roots – to give you an idea of the diversity in her show.  She has also been singing with Jimmy’s band and squeezing in club shows with her band the Soul Mates.

In 2008, after years singing back up for many international and Aussie artists and fronting her own groups, Mahalia Barnes and the Soul Mates released their debut album Mahalia Barnes + the Soul Mates - Volume 1.

As an artist, she's drawn to guitar-driven gutsy soul, rock and blues, and is inspired by acts like Ike and Tina Turner and legendary queen of soul Aretha Franklin

Mahalia Barnes auditioned for the first season of the Australian version of The Voice with the song "Proud Mary". All coaches pressed their buttons then realised that she was in fact Jimmy Barnes' daughter. Mahalia was eliminated in the battle ring when she was pitted against Prinnie Stevens.

Prinnie and Mahalia teamed up in what most think is an unexpected but natural collaboration in an album of duets, Come Together which was released in 2012.
