Sam Kekovich

Most Australians are familiar with Sam Kekovich, an Australian footballer turned media icon, famous for his ‘rants’. His advertisements for lamb were funny and controversial. Sam appears frequently on 'The Fat,' and is well as his work on various radio stations.

His spoken word album was nominated for an ARIA award for best comedy album.

Sam Kekovich’s football career began at North Melbourne in 1968, winning the best and fairest award in 1969. He was an important member of the premiership team when they won in 1975. After playing 124 games with the Kangaroos, he joined Collingwood but only played four games before retiring from VFL and playing VFA. He played in the premiership side when Prahran won against Preston in 1978.

Since becoming involved in the media, Sam has become well known for his ‘rants’ on the ABC show, The Fat. He has also has stints on radio stations 3AK, SEN, Triple M and ESPN. His ‘rants’ are usually deadpan in style and often end with the phrase, “you know it makes sense. I’m Sam Kekovich.” His spoken word album, released by the ABC, was nominated for best comedy album at the ARIAs in 2002. These rants have been used for everything from North Melbourne membership drives, promoting Dan Murphy’s, and of course the infamous lamb advertisements.

More recently, Sam is executive producing the Australian film, Blinder, which was shot around Torquay in Victoria.
