One Fire Aboriginal Dance Group

One Fire 1
John Tye 1

One Fire Dance troupe is one of Melbourne's leading indigenous dance troupes and has performed nationally and internationally. The troupe dances for indigenous and non-indigenous groups and provides cultural talks.

The name “One-Fire” denotes the idea that any dancer from any region could bring his “fire” – his story and his magic – and join in with others to create fire, dance and song.

Major events that One-Fire has performed at include AFL Grand Final 2003-2007, The Fred Hollows Foundation, Moomba ‘96-’97, Festival of Melbourne, the President’s Cup Golfing Tournament, welcoming ceremonies for the Wurrundjri people of Melbourne, several international invitations to perform on a national level, and so much more!  In fact, One-Fire has performed at over thirty festivals in and around Melbourne.

The Dance Troupe leaders are John and Geoff Tye, performing visual artists from the Murray River region of Victoria.  Both are Yorta Yorta men, a northern tribe on the Victoria-New South Wales border.
