Red Shoes

Red Shoes play Afro-Cuban music featuring South American dances from the early 1900's to the present day: mambos, danzons, cha-cha-chas, boleros and more. The relaxed, 'lounge' style is perfect as elegant background music with an international flavour. The line-up consists of Christine Draeger on flute, Philip Moran on guitar and Garry Cousins on bass guitar. 

This versastile group are able to play semi-acoustically for a small function, or with amplification for a bigger event. 

Christine  is a busy freelance flautist and teacher in Sydney. She was a member of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra from 1981-86 and since then has worked around Australia with many different classical and contemporary groups. She has recorded three CDs of flute and piano music by Australian composers and also writes music herself.

Since the success of his well received and highly acclaimed album, Spanish Inspiration (2003), Phil Moran has been regularly performing in Sydney and throughout New South Wales. His performances have included numerous solo recitals and appearances as a soloist with local Sydney orchestras.

When he is not performing as a classical guitarist, Phil is a devoted teacher of guitar, privately and as a lecturer at the Wesley Institute for Creative Arts.

Garry Cousins started as a saxophone player before switching to electric bass 17 years ago. He studied at the NSW Conservatorium of Music from 2000 to 2005 with Ron Philpott and John Neeme among others. As well as playing in Red Shoes, he plays in the Inner Urban Jazz Trio. Together with Christine he led the FluteTree Jazz Group from 2009.
